A Group 2/3 car seat is designed for children weighing 15–36 kg, typically aged 4 to 12 years. Group 2 covers 15–25 kg and uses a high-back booster with a vehicle seatbelt, while Group 3 covers 22–36 kg and can be used as a backless booster. Many seats span both groups, offering excellent long-term value as your child grows.
Your child is ready to move to a Group 2/3 seat when they have outgrown their Group 1 seat — usually when they exceed the maximum weight limit (typically 18 kg) or their head rises above the top of the seat. Always check the manufacturer's guidelines and never rush the transition; a well-fitting Group 1 seat is always safer than moving up too early.
ISOFIX is not mandatory for Group 2/3 seats, but it is recommended where available. ISOFIX anchors the seat securely to your car's chassis, reducing the risk of incorrect installation. Belt-fit Group 2/3 seats are also safe when fitted correctly and are a great option for vehicles without ISOFIX points. Check your vehicle handbook to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
