Trikes – Baby & Toddler Tricycles for Every Stage
Shop our range of baby and toddler trikes – from parent-steered ride-ons for babies from 10 months to independent pedal trikes for confident toddlers. A trike is one of the most versatile outdoor toys you can buy, growing with your child from their first outdoor adventures through to independent riding. Free UK delivery available.
Types of Trike
- Parent-steered trikes – Feature a parent push handle and steering rod that allows you to guide the trike while your baby enjoys the ride. Suitable from approximately 10–12 months. As your child grows, the parent controls can be removed so they can steer and pedal independently.
- Independent pedal trikes – For toddlers who are ready to pedal and steer themselves. Suitable from approximately 2–3 years depending on the model.
- Convertible trikes – Grow-with-me designs that convert from a parent-steered baby trike to an independent toddler trike, offering excellent long-term value.
How to Choose the Right Trike
- Age & developmental stage – Parent-steered trikes suit babies from 10–12 months; independent trikes suit toddlers from 2–3 years. Convertible models cover both stages.
- Safety harness – For younger babies, look for a trike with a 3 or 5-point safety harness to keep them secure in the seat.
- Sun canopy – A UV-protective canopy is a practical addition for outdoor use in sunny weather.
- Storage basket – Useful for carrying snacks, toys, and essentials on longer outings.
- Adjustable seat & footrests – Ensure the trike can be adjusted as your child grows for a comfortable, safe riding position.

Frequently Asked Questions
Parent-steered trikes are suitable from approximately 10–12 months, when your baby can sit upright with good head and neck control. At this stage, you steer and push the trike while your baby enjoys the ride in a secure harness. As your child develops, the parent controls can be removed so they can begin to steer and pedal independently – typically from around 18 months to 2 years. Independent pedal trikes are usually suitable from around 2–3 years, depending on the model and your child's development.
A trike has three wheels and pedals, providing stability without the need for balance. It's suitable from a younger age (from around 10 months with parent steering) and is a good first outdoor ride-on. A balance bike has two wheels and no pedals – children propel themselves with their feet and learn to balance, which makes the transition to a pedal bike much easier. Balance bikes are typically suitable from around 18 months to 2 years. Many families use a trike first, then transition to a balance bike before a pedal bike.
Many parent-steered trikes include a UV-protective sun canopy as standard, which is a practical feature for outdoor use in sunny weather. Some models offer the canopy as an optional accessory. If sun protection is important to you, check the product listing to confirm whether a canopy is included or available separately. Look for canopies with a UPF 50+ rating for maximum UV protection.
